Background

Early life

Jay Wayne Jenkins was born on 28 September 1977 in Columbia South Carolina, US. His parents separated shortly after his birth forcing him to live with different family members.

He says his mother is the late Sandra Rose who raised him alongside his grandmother. It seems the rapper does not like his father and never talks about him.

Jay grew up in Atlanta Georgia before moving to Hawkinsville and Macon. This is where he got affiliated with members of the Crips gang.

While speaking to XXL magazine, the rapper says that he had an empty childhood. He says they faced several financial constraints that made life really bad.

When he was 17 years old, Jay was arrested for possession of narcotics. He was sent to the Youth Challenge Academy for nine months.

 

Personal life

Jeezy has had multiple partners from over the years namely Tenehsa Dykes and Mahlet Mahi Gebremedhin. He is currently dating Jeannie Mai Jenkins.

His children are Jadarius Jenkins, Amra Nor Jenkins, Monaco Jenkins and Shyheim Jenkins.

 

Music Career

Jeezy started getting involved in music in 1998 after launching the label imprint CTE World (Corporate Thugz Entertainment).

His rape career started in 2001 with the release of his debut album ‘Thuggin’ Under the influence (T.U.I). This was at a time when he used the stage name Lil J.

The album featured Lil Jon, Freddy J and Fidank. This was followed by the release of ‘Come shop wit me’ in 2003. He then signed with ‘Bad boy records’ in 2004.

His next project would be a self-titled album from his new group ‘Boyz n da hood’ in 2005. The album peaked at number 5 on the Billboard 200.

Due to his popularity, he was pursued by several record labels before signing with Def Jam records.

Under Def Jam, Jeezy released his first major label album titled ‘Let’s get it: Thug motivation’ on 26 July 2005.

He soared to new heights as the album sold over 172,000 copies in its first week. It also debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200.

Jeezy’s profound success would inspire him to leave ‘Boyz n da Hood’ and establish himself as a solo artist.

In 2006, he released his second album ‘Inspiration’. It sold over 352,000 copies in its first week. The rapper started another music group titled U.S.D.A with Blood raw and Slick Pulla.

In 2007, they would release their first album titled ‘Cold summer’ which debuted at number 4 on the billboard and sold 95,000 copies in its first week.

This was followed by the release of his third studio album ‘Recession’. It also peaked at number one on the Billboard 200 and sold over 260,000 copies in its first week.

He officially changed his name to Jeezy in March 2010. His sixth album ‘Thug Motivation 103’ was released in December 20,2011.

In 2013, Jeezy released a compilation mixtape titled ‘Boss yo life up gang’. This was followed by ‘Trap or die 3’ in 2016, ‘Pressure’ in 2017 and ‘TM104: The legend of the snowman’ and ‘Recession 2’ in 2020.

He has had several collaborations with artists including Rick Ross, Ne-Yo, Demi Lovato among others.

 

Philanthropy

Jeezy alongside CTE held a week long toy drive in Macon and Atlanta that started on December 17,2007. The drive is known as Toyz N Da Hood Drive. The Christmas portion of the drive ran for 6 hours at Club Miami.
